Birthday Cookie Cards

I have about 10 birthdays in my class between April and August and I wanted to do something special for my students since I won't see them for the rest of the academic year.

Cheryl's is my most favorite place to order cookies from, they are by far the best cookies I have ever tasted! They are known for their frosted buttercream sugar cookies however I enjoy the oatmeal raisin and lemon cookies too.

I decided I would send Cheryl's Cookie Cards to my students near their birthdays. So far, one has received theirs and the mom emailed me to tell me that he had been so sad about not having a birthday party this year and the cookie card and message I sent cheered him right up! They are $5 each and well worth the price to bring a smile to my scholar's faces during this time of great uncertainty.

I even sent a card to my #teamBFF, she loved hers as well!

Presidential Cookie Contest

During the 2008 Election my teammates and I decided to hold an election using the Presidential Cookie Recipes from Family Circle.
Here's a picture of the team election bulletin board.
2nd Grade Election Results

Cookie A Recipe- Michelle Obama

Cookie B Recipe- Cindy McCain
I had such a blast doing this that I had to do it with my 3rd graders in my new school back in 2012. I've created a document with the recipes and ballots. Last time I had 4 parent volunteers make the cookies and send them in. Each student got one of each cookie and marked their choice on the ballot. They placed the ballots in a ballot box and the teachers tallied them over night. The teachers annouced the winners the next day. *Beware of food allergies!*

The recipes for this year have been posted on the Family Circle website, click here for your very own copy.
Do you think you'll use this idea in your classroom? What other election activities are you doing?

Project Baby Sprinkle

Me, posing with the Dessert Table
I found out this spring that one of my best friends was pregnant with her second child. Since I had just started working at my school when she was pregnant with her first I wasn't involved with her first round of showers but I definitely wanted to throw her one for her second child. But apparently that's rare... so I took to google and found out the name of a "second child" baby shower is affectionately called "Baby Sprinkle." Well I could do a lot with that theme and took to Pinterest for ideas but the sprinkle theme faded when I discovered the "Mod Party" shop on Etsy and decided I wanted something more chic and went with a Gold, Pastel Pink and White Shower!

Team Gifts

I still have 15 more days until teachers report back to school. My classroom is finished, my long range plans completed and steady marking things off my to-do list in preparation for a new school year! Thursday is our first team meeting. Very informal, held at someone's house. We'll have a pot luck lunch and discuss school items, we have two new teachers to our team/school so I wanted to meet so they could get some of their questions answered and talk about things such as field trips and homework and what committees we're going to serve on.

I'm excited to share my team gifts with you! I ordered t-shirts from this company http://teachertshirts.spreadshirt.com/ and as always I had to order some cookies from my favorite shop on Etsy http://www.etsy.com/shop/acookiejar?ref=search_shop_redirect. Her shop is on vacation at the moment but you can look at her feedback and sales to see pictures of her work. I've ordered Valentine Owls, Hungry Caterpillar, Apples and now "Candy" themed cookies with a "3" for 3rd grade! I will be ordering again, probably for Christmas. Trust me, it's worth every penny, these are the best cookies you will eat, plus they have disco dust on them to make them sparkle!

The gift tag says "It's a treat to have you on the 3rd grade team!" and I added some Chevron tissue paper since that's my new obsession. Okay, now for some pics... would love your feedback!
