Spaghetti in a Hot Dog Bun

I LOVE this book! I read this book during the first three weeks of school while I was using childrens books to build character. Best of all, the author, Maria Dismondy http://www.mariadismondy.com/ , has an activity packet full of ideas to go along with this book http://www.mariadismondy.com/uploads/docs/Spaghetti-Readers-Guide.pdf.
It's about having the courage to be who you are, and children nowadays need all the encouragment they need in this area. It would also be the perfect Christmas gift for the child in your life how has or needs the confidence to be themselves!

Now for the awesome giveaway... I'm giving away a SIGNED COPY(from the author) of this book. All you have to do is follow my blog, and leave a comment including your email address, telling me how you would use it in your classroom. I will be choosing a winner on Saturday.

  2. This would be a great way to kick off the school year teaching about differences. I have a very low socio-economic crew and it would really help some of my kiddos! Thanks for the chance!

  3. I had seen this book earlier, but my library did not have it. I think this would be an awesome way to remind children how to act and stand up for behaving the right way. I feel like I spend a lot of the day trying to teach kids how to do the right thing and this book would be a great reference! Thanks for the giveaway!!

  8. I am a follower of your blog. I would love to use this book to help build character with my students. Each morning the students and I discuss a new word for the day to build our character education. Having courage during tough times, is definitely a trait we all need to possess.

  10. I follow your blog. This book sounds great. I would use it in my resource classrooms. Students with disabilities often have low self-esteem and this book sounds like a great way to help them celebrate who they are.

  12. Hi Jessica! I am a follower of your blog and I have probably earned some frequent flyer miles from your classroom website as well. I think this book sounds great! We teach a character word each month based on a professional book about poverty. We are in our third year of this and we have seen great progress with the students. I think my students would be able to make great text-to-self connections with this book as well as text-to-text connections. And I agree that our students need encouragement in the area of self-esteem. I work with a Title 1 population and they seem to need a lot of encouragement to believe they can be what they dream of being...now and when they grow up.

    Thanks for your giveaway opportunity!

  17. I have this book "pinned" to purchase ASAP. I would love to have this book to use in my classroom with a few of my girls that try so hard to conform to the way they think other girls want them to be. I think that girls (as well as boys) are very susceptible to falling into this mindset and I would love to incorporate this book into my whole group teaching to involve everyone. Thanks so much for the giveaway! Love your blog too! :)

  20. Thanks for the give away. I love the idea of the coloured glasses and having the students explain the story from different character's point of view. What a great way to teach them how to perceive other view points. All the way from Canada. mary at apopovic@primus.ca
